YOU JUST DON'T WANT TO BE DOWN
I think I slept off all of my leftover confusion from being all tired and stuff yesterday. Proper Use of Apostrophes Girl was a huge success in the English department, and you should probably look on the department webpage soon for my picture. If not there, then on the H&SS page for sure. The Dean's Office was so down with me. They gave me a red marker to replace my blue marker because they agreed it needed to be red in order to fulfill the necessary archetypes about grammatical correction. Rock.

I got a zine and a letter about my zine in the mail today. I don't think I'm ever going to get over how nice that feels. I think it's probably pretty likely that a lot of people participate in zines for that reason. I mean, after the first adoring letter from a 14 year old, you're probably hooked. I haven't written any zine letters to anybody for two or three months, but this made me feel like getting back into it again.

I DO NOT SAY "CHAIR" BECAUSE OF SOME KIND OF INHERENT "CHAIRNESS" THAT DEMANDS THE SYLLABLES AND CONSONANTS AS THEY APPEAR.
Today has been a great day. Work was good as usual; one of the professors brought in some amazing lemon pound cake with buttercream frosting, so that totally ruled. I finished A Scanner Darkly before class. We got back our take-home exams in Interpretive Practices today. Yes, this is the exam I had to finish the night Ram broke up with me. I've been kind of worried about it in a low-grade way for a long time, but I aced it. And I got some really great comments on it, too. I'm so glad that all of the work I've put into that class manifests in some tangible way. Huge sigh of relief.

Later in the day I had my debut in the student reading series and everything (my costume, my poems) went well. I feel so relieved that I've finally made that leap into the student reading series. I was a little disappointed that so many of my friends were unable to make it. I mean, they all had previously scheduled events and everything, but it would have been nice for them to have been there. But this is only beginning, as I'm sure you know.

HOLD YOU LIKE I HOLD THAT BAKELITE IN MY HAND
It was, apparently, a great jazz concert. I thought things were a little shaky in quite a few places, but we were really swinging hard on most of the songs. I've never felt so not in my own body while playing before. I mean, soloing is always the kind of thing that puts me in a totally different frame of mind anyway, but tonight I was definitely not in my own head. I think that I don't necessarily have the kind of technical grasp on jazz that a lot of other people have, but I do something when I play that really gets to people. It makes me feel a little like a hack, that I can grab somebody's emotions without being as good at the craft of jazz as some other very talented players. But, on the other hand, jazz isn't meant to be academic. Anyway.

The point is that I had a great time playing tonight. I felt totally in my element among all of the other musicians, and it was just nice to hear everybody else play. And I love dressing up for jazz events. Mwah.
PUT NEW BATTERIES IN YOUR FLASHLIGHT
This is how excited I've been about the Miroslav show: first of all, I told everybody it was last Friday, which was wrong. And then I rhapsodized about how glad I was that I was going to see them this week. And then I realized that they weren't playing at the Frame until the Friday after this one. Hah. Jenn thought it was really funny, mostly because we both have a huge crush on the Miroslav bassist Nate Stimmel. Yesterday we discussed the pros and cons of me making a shirt that says, "Nathan Stimmel, be my husband." But I have to wait two more weeks, dammit.
