HARDLY ART, HARDLY STARVING! HARDLY ART, HARDLY GARBAGE!
Who said "Don't sweat the small stuff"? Who the hell was that, anyway? It seems to me that I encounter something every day that makes me question the validity of what I'm doing. There are lot of good ways to deal with this, but I don't know what they are. Poetry is my rock and all that, so that's something, at least. That's the big stuff, and I'm not sweating it.
I've been reading the missed conenctions section of the newspaper again, which is at once highly instructive and also very depressing. At first it seems as if everybody is perfectly honest in their personal ads, but then you realize that everybody says the same thing. Does everybody REALLY just want a girl with a good sense of humor, somebody who likes staying in sometimes, has good self-confidence, and just likes to have fun? (Well, being a brunette, 5'9" wouldn't hurt.) Maybe we're not shooting high enough, guys. My personal ad would probably be a little offensive in its specificity. Like: "Truly dudical dudes need not apply. I want to talk about something other than how much you love Serpico. Also, you know that movie 'Devil's Playground,' about the Amish teenage phenomenon of Rumpsring? I don't want to talk about it, no matter how bitchin' you think it is." Or: "This may seem childish, but if you don't like Iggy Pop, I don't know how I can trust anything else about you. I'm sorry that my deal breaker is so seemingly arbitrary, but believe me, this is a trusted and true form of evaluation." And THAT'S only the beginning.
And by the way, it's ALL small stuff!
