I KNOW YOU'RE RICH IN GOOD CLOTHES AND LITTLE THINGS
Gosh, I have to quit with the whole blog post titles from Pixies songs thing. I'm sure you've all found me out by now. Ah. Anyway. So I haven't been posting for all this time because I've been trying to get my whole act together, which involves getting books, figuring out classes, setting up computers, putting stuff away, and all kinds of random stuff that I shouldn't bore you with, but probably will if I talk to you in person.
So I just got back from the jazz band audition, which went pretty much as I expected it to go. I mean, I get the sense that my audition had very little to do with where Dave (the jazz band director) is going to put me. I'm pretty sure he already had his plan all set out. Anyway, the plan that he's mentioned is to have one band do lots of big band stuff (Stan Kenton, if you're interested in that kind of thing) and have the other band do a funk band kind of thing. I think he wants me to do the funk band, and you know that I'm all over whatever he has for me to do. The only thing is that the big band-style ensemble is going to be the 6:30 ensemble, which was sort of known as the A band last year. I think Dave wants to even things out a little so that it isn't such a power thing or whatever. That sounds like a great idea to me, but I'm not exactly 100% into funk. But it basically comes down to this: playing funk for a year would be a huge learning oportunity for me, and jazz is all about the cooperative thing. Anyway.
In other news, getting to see Ram again is just about the best thing ever.
