THE MAGIC OF THE MOMENT MIGHT BECOME TOO MUCH FOR YOU
I'm having such a nice weekend. Adam and I totally slummed all around the South Side today. The Goodwill was absolutely lousy with hipsters (and punks and kids trying way, way too hard), so I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find anything. True, the t-shirts were really picked-over, but Adam and I scored bigtime. The best find of the day (as I'm sure I've told you at least five times if I've run into you) is a brown velvet ladies' jacket. I also finally picked up the new Sonic Youth, even though I know Dave would have let me burn it. Then we got lots of breakfast food at Eat 'n Park and vegged out on Adam's couch. What a nice time.

Right now I'm in the cluster taking a break from practicing; I have a lesson and a concert tomorrow, and I'm feeling a little wiped out. I need to stop with the coffee, already. I'm getting into one of those bad coffee feedback loops that keeps on getting more and more out of synch with a regular sleeping schedule. Wait, though, I'm young.

Come to my concert tomorrow at 7:00 in Kresge Theatre in the CFA. It will not disappoint.

GLOAT GLOAT GLOAT
I got an extra job compiling a volume of Gladys Schmitt's short stories. It'll only last for about two weeks, but still. Check me out. This is real actual work. Ahhhh.
TRAPPED BETWEEN THE DOCTOR AND THE MAGISTRATE
Well, it would seem that everything I said before has changed. I still think it's stupid for people to communicate through away messages. (Um, hi, let's talk about deferral and differeance, shall we?) However, my life is not as wrecked as I thought it would be. People are taking care of me, things are going right in my classes, and I feel like a pretty damn productive person, all things considered. So far I'm getting a new minizine (tentatively titled "panopticon"), a scarf, a scarf knitting business, some photobooth pictures and an Orange Julius (thanks, Matt), and so much home-cooked food. I should get a broken heart every day. (That's a joke. I don't recommend it.)

At the moment, this will be just for news. First of all, the CMU Jazz Ensembles have their first concert this Sunday, October 27th, at 7:00 PM in Kresge Hall, College of Fine Arts, Carnegie Mellon U. campus. My ensemble is playing funk, and while that's not my favorite style of music, I'm just warning you right now that I really let loose on some of those solos, and you're going to want to be there. Secondly, I'm reading at the Student Reading Series next Tuesday at 7:30 PM in the Gladys Schmitt Creative Writing Center, Baker Hall 260, CMU campus. This is a departmental event within the Creative Writing Department, and it's all students. This reading should be even more fun than usual because the readers will be attired in Halloween costumes. This is my writing deb ball, my coming out party, and I would love if you were there. There is free pizza afterwards, by the way.

Thirdly and fourthly and fifthly, there is an absolute bevvy of events to attend tomorrow (Friday) evening. The Girls are playing at the Women of CS Picnic around 8:00, and it would behoove you to show up. Obviously. Corn on the cobviously. My-son's-a-slobviously. I've heard very exciting gossip about this show, none of which I can confirm, but the possibility exists that my roommate Jennifer "Legs" Sabino will sit in on keys. (That's "piano" for those of you unfamiliar with da school of jazz.) That very same night, also at eight, the No Parking Players are tearing it up in the Danforth Lounge. You should always try to see NPP becuase they are pure deisel, but tomorrow night the absolutely saucy Brian Grey is debuting within their troupe. You really want to be in both places at once. If you talk to any of the Girls, they'll probably try to coerce you into going to the NPP show, but their show is going to be super hot. I leave it up to you. Fifthly, I've heard that the Gameboy Project (formerly odi, but with jumpsuits, i mean no jumsuits, and like, members of the Beatles and Jon Brodsky playing music via gameboy) is playing sometime on Friday night at Yann's place, but I can't confirm or give you times or anything. Leave it to serendipity, I guess.

Also: I've decided to start a knitting business. I spend a lot of time knitting anyway, so I may as well siphon off some of my neurotic energy and sell it to the people, right? Here's the deal: every scarf will be commissioned by you, and the color, length, width, and stitch is entirely your choice. You can also leave the design of your scarf in my hands and see what kind of customized wonder I cook up for you. There are a few caveats, however: I may not be able to make you the exact scarf you ask for based on yarn availability, the degree of complication involved, and the difficulty of the pattern, but I'm going to try my darndest. Also, by ordering a scarf you agree that 1)I am just one person, 2)I am usually pretty busy, and 3)your scarf will get done whenever it gets done. You understand that I am doing this on my free time, out of my own nervy desire to accomplish something during my long, lonely hours. That said, I will put as much care and love into the construction of each piece as I possibly can. Prices negotiable (but never over $15); see me soon for order forms.

Whew!

I'M A CRAZY BABE
Such news: Pander Zine Distro has decided to pick up my zine!!!! This is the distro that I always order from, the biggest, arguably the best distro in the whole damn world. I won't say exactly how many copies Ericka ordered, but let's say that I have to make more copies tomorrow. Wow. Having a zine distroed in Pander has been one of my biggest goals, and I have to admit that it's really made my day. So, a link: to Pander. Look around. It's a really nice community of zinesters and the message board really reflects that. There is not a zine in the catalogue that I wouldn't recommend highly, and that says something (about my restraint when it comes to orders from pander, maybe, yes . . . . .)

Havalina.
HAVALINA
Okay. Ram broke up with me. I don't like the way that people who are breaking up communicate second-hand through instant messenger away messages and blogs like this. I really don't feel like I can share my life with you right now, unless I share random quotes from my parents or knitting patterns or random images. Because even those things say too much about me, or at least it feels like that. It isn't as if any of you would see the title of the post and think about the line in "The Royal Tenenbaums" where Royal sees the empty spot on the wall next to the staircase and says, "Where's my Havalina?". You probably wouldn't guess that, of all the lines in that movie, that one would make me cry, but it reminds me of the Pixies song "Havalina" and all Pixies songs remind me of Ram. And that stupid hairy boar's head was in the gameroom the whole time.

You might say that I've sort of missed the point by telling you all of that so explicitly. But give me a fucking break. I'm the new owner of a broken heart.
