I'LL GET A NICKEL, YOU GET A DIME, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE US A BOTTLE OF WINE

There aren't enough Solomon Burke records in the entire world to express the way this feels right now. Or enough Iggy Pop "everyone will be alright tonight" jams, either, for that matter. Or enough "as I walk down life's lonely highways hand in hand with myself" Lou Reed moments. And not even anywhere close to enough horn sections. Because really, fuck that darkness shit. Because there's always an all-night diner and people who pick you up from the train station and give you a big bag of bubblegum. (I want to hear you say YEAH!) Yesterday I met a guy named Toe and a guy named Hollywood. One of my jazz friends just moved into the neighborhood, and he called me in the middle of the day while I was nursing my spiritual exhaustion over a big plate of spaghetti. "It's kind of lonely, you know?" he says. (And I say YEAH to that too.) So I show up and he's got his saxophone out, and he's hanging out with Toe and Hollywood on his back porch. Hollywood used to be a rock 'n roller, but now he does maintainence on Matt's building, and they're in the middle of this jam session. They're going to take their act to the Hilton downtown and see if it gets them thrown out. They play this boogie woogie song about wine. But they have to go home because Hollywood got a 220 volt shock just before I showed up. It's all Solomon Burke in this corner today.
